As a result of improved computer and network technologies, social networks, mobile devices, tracking and surveillance devices are rapidly expanding into our daily lives, generating big data in real time. Today, the physical and virtual environments are closely intertwined and interactive. This situation has led to the emergence of special systems - cyber-physical systems (CPS), which allow physical systems that work in the real world to interact with cyber systems. Concepts such as the Internet of things, big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, including CPS, led to the 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). CPS has a special place in Industry 4.0. The article discusses the nature, trends and stages of the development of the CPS concept, analyzes the relationships between the CPS and the Internet of things, a smart city and an artificial society. The role, prospects and problems of CPS in Industry 4.0 are determined. Proposals are developed for the effective use of Cyber-Physical Social Systems (CPSS) for the formation of e-government and socio-economic development of the country (pp.91-101).
